Offboarding from Instant

Should you at any time want to stop using Instant, you can cancel your Instant plan. After canceling, you will be moved to the Free plan where you can still publish 1 page, 1 section, and 1 blog item—but only if you do not have active layouts that exceed the Free plan limitations.

Overview

There are two methods for canceling your Instant plan:

Cancel your plan while keeping the Instant app installed for future use.

Steps

  1. Navigate to Project settings → Plans

  2. View your current active plan

  3. Click the Cancel plan button at the bottom of the Free plan card

  4. This downgrades your plan to Free

What Happens with Published Layouts?

When you downgrade to a different plan or cancel entirely, any layouts that exceed the limits of your new plan must be unpublished before proceeding.

During the downgrade process, you'll be able to select which layouts you want to unpublish.

Canceling by Deleting the Instant App

Deleting the app from your Shopify store automatically cancels your active Instant subscription.

Warning: Deleting the Instant app will prevent you from managing your layouts within the Instant Builder.

Steps

  1. In Shopify, navigate to Apps and sales channels

  2. Select the Instant app

  3. Click the Uninstall App button at the bottom of the page

Removing Instant Code from Your Theme

If the Instant app is uninstalled without removing your published layouts first, the layout files remain in your theme. You can remove these manually.

Steps

  1. Navigate to Online Store → Themes → Customize → Edit code

  2. In the Theme code editor, search for "Instant" in the Filter Files search box

  3. All Instant-related files will appear

  4. Select an Instant file

  5. Click the trashcan button to delete it

  6. Repeat for all Instant files

The Built with Instant Badge

When using the Free plan, a badge appears in the bottom left corner when viewing pages or sections created with Instant.
