Cart upsells and add-ons

Suggest extra products with the Product upsell carousel and the Cart add-on toggle in your Instant cart layout.

Cart upsells and add-ons suggest extra products while the shopper is already in the cart. Both live in Insert → Shopify → Cart and are used in a Cart layout.

  • Product upsell — a carousel of recommended products with an add control.

  • Cart add-on — an optional product the shopper toggles on, such as shipping protection or gift wrapping.

Product upsell

Product upsell inserts a carousel titled Others also bought: with previous and next controls. Each slide shows a recommended product's image, title, price, and an Add button.

The slides repeat over Shopify product recommendations using Repeat on, defaulting to Related products with a limit of 10. In the Repeat element section you can switch the source to Complementary products or change the limit. Recommended products shown on the canvas are illustrative — the live products come from Shopify after you publish.

The Add button uses an add-to-cart action set to Instant cart, so tapping it adds the product without leaving the drawer.

Cart add-on

Cart add-on inserts an optional product with a toggle switch; the default is a Shipping protection add-on. Shoppers turn it on before checkout — common uses are gift wrapping, shipping protection, or a low-cost accessory. The add-on row is bound to a product and, by default, is hidden when the cart is empty.

The toggle uses the Toggle add-on action, available on clickable elements in a cart layout. Its Show/Hide setting controls whether the add-on stays listed after it's added to the cart:

  • Hide — remove it from the list once added (the default).

  • Show — keep it listed.

Placement in the drawer

Place upsells after the shopper can see their current cart contents — below Product items or above the Footer. Add-ons fit well near the Footer, since they change the total before checkout.

Preview and testing

Upsell add buttons and add-on toggles both work against the Shopify cart. Preview them with the Cart section's Preview controls in the Design panel: switch between Filled and Empty and set the number of Products to check each state before publishing.
