If you sell to multiple countries or languages through Shopify Markets, the Country select and Language select elements give visitors a way to switch their shopping context without leaving your Instant storefront.
Insert localization selectors
Open Insert in the left sidebar and switch to Elements.
Go to Advanced → Navigation.
Choose one of the two localization presets and add it to the canvas:
Country select — shows the visitor's current country and lets them pick another market.
Language select — shows the current language and lets them switch language.
Click or drag either preset onto the canvas — typically into a header or footer, though they work in any section. There is no plan restriction on adding these elements. The available countries and languages come from your Shopify Markets configuration.
What each selector displays
Each preset is a container with text layers that pull live localization values, plus a caret icon. You can restyle, add, or remove these text layers like any other element.
Country select shows the Country name, the Currency code (for example,
USD), and the Currency symbol (for example,$).Language select shows the Language code (for example,
EN), displayed in uppercase by default.
To change what a text layer shows, select it and open its dynamic content options. The localization sources you can choose from are Country name, Country code, Currency code, Currency symbol, Language code, and Language name. These values update automatically based on the visitor's current market and language — you style the container and typography, and Instant fills in the live data.
On your published storefront, each selector renders as a native dropdown listing the countries or languages available in your markets. Choosing an option switches the shopper's market or language.
Style the selector
Select the Country select or Language select container in Layouts & layers and style it like any other element — adjust padding, borders, typography, and the caret icon to match your brand. The Style tab includes a Localization group that shows whether the element is a country or language selector.
Place selectors where shoppers expect them: the top-right of a header, often next to the cart button, is the most common pattern.
Shopify Markets setup
Instant renders the selectors, but the available countries and languages come from your Shopify Markets configuration. Before publishing:
Confirm Markets are enabled in your Shopify admin.
Verify each market has the correct domains, currencies, and languages assigned.
Test switching between markets on your published storefront to confirm prices and URLs update correctly.
See Shopify Markets and localization for how per-layout Markets support works alongside these selectors.
Design tips
Keep the selector compact and legible — a short label plus the caret icon reads clearly in a header.
On mobile, make the tap target large enough for easy switching.
Place both selectors together so international shoppers find them in one spot.
If you only sell in one country and language, you can skip these elements — they add clutter when there is nothing to switch.
