Shopify Markets and localization

Localize Instant layouts for Shopify Markets with country and language selectors and per-layout Markets support.

Shopify Markets lets one Shopify store sell in multiple countries, currencies, and languages. Instant works with that setup in two ways: localization selectors shoppers can use on the storefront, and per-layout Shopify Markets support so a layout's content can be translated and managed inside Shopify.

Markets are configured in your Shopify admin. Instant renders against your existing markets, languages, and currencies — it doesn't create them for you.

Add country and language selectors

Give shoppers a way to switch their market or language:

  1. Open Insert in the left sidebar and switch to Elements.

  2. Go to Advanced → Navigation.

  3. Choose Country select or Language select and add it to the canvas — usually in a header or footer.

Country select shows the current country and can display the currency code and symbol; Language select shows the current language. The available options come from your Shopify Markets configuration and update automatically per visitor. There's no plan restriction on adding these elements. See Country and language selectors for details.

Enable Shopify Markets on a layout

To let a layout's content be translated and managed in Shopify, open its settings and go to the Advanced tab, then turn on Shopify Markets. The panel explains: By enabling Shopify Markets, the contents on this page can be translated & managed within Shopify.

Once enabled, content for that layout must be managed in Shopify — changes you make in Instant aren't reflected until you use Overwrite Shopify content, which is available after the layout is published. See Layout settings and Manage content in Shopify.

Plan availability

Sections support Shopify Markets on all plans. Turning on Shopify Markets for other layout types — pages, templates, cart, and so on — requires the Business plan. On lower plans the Shopify Markets toggle on those layouts shows a Business badge and is disabled.

Confirm your plan under Settings → Plans, and see Compare plans or Upgrade your plan.

Translate product images

Shopify can localize regular images through its own translation tools, but it doesn't support translating product images. If your product images contain text (feature callouts, badges), the third-party T Lab app can handle this: once T Lab is installed and you've uploaded translated versions of your product images, it swaps them per language on the storefront. It works out of the box with Instant layouts — there's nothing to configure in Instant.

Test per-market A/B variants

A/B tests can target a specific market and language, so you can compare localized variants without mixing traffic across regions. See A/B test goals and targeting.
