Instant automatically saves backups of your layouts as you work. Version history lets you browse these backups and restore an earlier state if a change does not work out — without rebuilding from scratch.
Open version history
Click the gear icon next to the layout name in the top header to open layout settings.
Click the History tab.
You see a timeline of automatic backups, newest first, with the Current version at the top. Each entry shows when the backup was created and who was editing.
Restore a version
Open a backup's ⋯ menu and choose Restore version. Instant replaces your current layout content with the backed-up version.
Restoring does not publish. After restoring, review your layout on the canvas and publish again if the layout was live on your storefront.
Retention depends on your plan
How far back you can restore depends on your plan. Older backups beyond your plan's window stay in the timeline but are locked: their ⋯ menu shows Upgrade plan, and an Extended history note offers to extend your history. Check your plan's retention in Settings → Plans, or upgrade your plan to keep backups longer.
When backups are created
Instant creates backups automatically as you edit — you do not need to save versions manually. Each layout keeps its own history.
Version history vs undo
Undo (
Cmd+Z/Ctrl+Z) — step back through recent changes in your current session.Version history — restore a complete layout snapshot from earlier, even from a previous session.
Use undo for immediate mistakes; use version history to recover an older state after many edits or after reopening the project. See Undo, redo, and autosave.
Empty history
If a layout has no backups yet, the History tab shows No history available. Start editing and backups appear as Instant saves your work.
