Layout settings control how each layout behaves on your storefront — its name, URL, default assignments, Shopify integration, and more. Every layout type shares a common settings panel, with tabs and fields that adapt to the layout you are editing.
Open layout settings
Click the gear icon next to the layout name in the top header to open settings for the layout you're editing. The panel is titled with the layout type — for example, Page settings, Blog post settings, Section settings, Header settings, Footer settings, Cart settings, or Product template settings.

Set as home page — requires the Starter plan or higher to publish

Product pages and collections
Products or Collections — assign items to the template (available after you publish)
Set as default template — the fallback for unassigned items

Use in Shopify — where the section can be placed (Templates, Header, Footer)
Headers and footers
Set as main header or Set as main footer
Cart
Set as main cart — requires the Pro plan or higher to publish
Instant cart actions — an Automatic cart actions setup toggle
SEO tab
Available for pages (except the home page) and blog posts. Set the Title and Description with a live search preview. Use Generate to draft copy with AI. See SEO settings.
History tab
Shows a timeline of automatic backups, newest first, with the current version at the top. Open an entry's ⋯ menu and choose Restore version. How far back you can restore depends on your plan; older backups are locked with an Upgrade plan prompt. See Version history.
Advanced tab
Shopify Markets — enable market-specific content management in Shopify. On full page layouts this requires the Business plan; sections always manage content in Shopify.
Manage content in Shopify — an info box explaining where content is edited after publish.
Overwrite Shopify content — push your Instant content back to Shopify (available after publishing).
Open Shopify theme editor — a link to your Shopify theme editor.
Default assignments
Several layout types can be set as the default for your storefront:

Enable the setting on the General tab, then publish. Only one layout can hold each default role at a time.
