The recommended way to build a new page is with the Agent. Give it a prompt, screenshot, website link, or Figma design, then review and refine the result on the visual canvas.
Prerequisites
An Instant account and a project (a Shopify connection is recommended but not required to start designing).
Choose how to start
When you open a new project with no layouts, Instant shows How would you like to start? Choose one of these options:
Build with AI (Recommended) — Opens the Agent so you can describe the page you want.
Choose a Template — Opens the Template Library. Templates are full Agent-ready layouts. Apply your brand kit and keep iterating with the Agent.
Build from Scratch — Creates a blank page and opens the Insert panel so you can add sections and elements yourself.
You can create more layouts later from Layouts & layers. Building through the Agent and choosing Build from Scratch are two different approaches. You can use both in the same project, but you cannot combine them in the same layout.
Give the Agent a starting point
Open the Agent and start in any of these ways:
Write a prompt — Describe the page, its goal, and the sections you want.
Attach a screenshot — Give the Agent a visual reference to follow.
Use a website link — Share a page that should inspire the result.
Import from Figma — Bring a selected Figma frame into the Agent.
For example:
Create a product landing page with a bold hero, a three-column benefits section, customer reviews, and a product grid.
Set up your brand kit
Your brand kit tells the Agent how your store should look and sound. It includes guidance such as your colors, typography, spacing, components, and brand do's and don'ts. Once it is set up, the Agent applies it by default when it builds and edits.
Set up your kit before an important build so you do not have to repeat the same brand instructions in every prompt. See Set up a brand kit.
Review and refine on the canvas
The Agent builds your page directly on the visual canvas. Use the canvas to review and refine it:
Review the complete result on the canvas.
Click part of the layout to select it.
Edit supported text directly, use Ask AI, or adjust the selection in the Design panel.
Ask the Agent for larger changes, such as replacing a section or changing the overall direction.
Check the page on desktop and mobile.
Use Preview to test the result before publishing.

Build with elements
You can also create a layout with drag-and-drop elements. In Layouts & layers, select +, choose a layout type, then choose Build from scratch. Add elements from Insert. This path is available, but it is not the recommended way to start a new layout. See Build with elements.
