SEO settings

Set page titles and meta descriptions for Instant pages and blog posts to improve search visibility.

In Instant, you configure SEO for pages and blog posts on a dedicated SEO tab in layout settings. Product page templates, collection templates, sections, and carts do not have an SEO tab — their metadata comes from Shopify.

Open SEO settings

  1. Open a page or blog post, then click the gear icon next to the layout name in the top header to open layout settings.

  2. Click the SEO tab.

The SEO tab is not available for the home page — manage homepage SEO in Shopify.

Title

The Title field sets the title shown in browser tabs and search results. The field counts up to 70 characters, and the search preview truncates the title at 70 characters.

Description

The Description field sets the meta description — the snippet search engines may show below your title. You can enter up to 320 characters.

Search preview

Below the fields, Instant shows a live preview of your page's URL, title, and description. A note reminds you that search engines might show a different snippet. Until you add a description, the preview shows placeholder text.

Generate SEO copy with AI

Click Generate to draft a title and description with AI based on your page content. After generating, the button becomes Regenerate, and an Undo changes button restores your previous values. Always review and edit the suggestions to match your brand voice.

What the SEO tab does not control

  • URL / handle — set on the General tab in layout settings

  • Heading structure and image alt text — set in the builder as you design the layout

  • Home page, product, and collection SEO — managed in Shopify

Publishing and SEO

SEO metadata publishes with your layout — there is no separate step. If you update SEO fields after publishing, publish again to push the changes.
