Every design you build in Instant is a layout. Each layout maps to a specific role on your Shopify storefront, and you manage all of them from the Layouts & layers panel in the builder sidebar. To create one, click + in the panel or use the Add layout menu.

Pages are full standalone pages for custom content — landing pages, about pages, FAQs, and more. After you publish, a page lives at /pages/{handle} unless you set it as your home page. Pages support SEO settings and can show or hide your theme header and footer per page.

Your home page is a page set as your default home page. It replaces your Shopify theme's homepage at your store's root URL. Publishing a page as your home page requires the Starter plan or higher.

Product page layouts define how individual product detail pages look. Collection layouts control how product listing pages appear. You assign specific products or collections to each layout in its settings, and one of each can be set as the default template for unassigned items. Publishing product page and collection layouts requires the Starter plan or higher.

Sections extend your Shopify theme with reusable blocks you place in the Shopify theme editor. In a section's settings you choose where it can be used — on templates, in headers, or in footers.

Headers and footers are navigation sections. You create them like sections, but Instant groups them separately in the Layouts & layers panel under Headers and Footers. After publishing, set one header as your main header and one footer as your main footer in layout settings. Publishing headers and footers requires the Starter plan or higher.

A cart layout is a custom cart drawer that replaces Shopify's default cart. You design the drawer in Instant, publish it, then set it as your main cart in layout settings. Publishing a cart requires the Pro plan or higher.

Blog posts are article layouts tied to a Shopify blog. After publishing, they appear at /blogs/{blog-handle}/{article-handle}. Blog posts support SEO settings, a featured image, an author, and an excerpt.

When you click + in the Layouts & layers panel or open the Add layout menu, Instant asks what you want to create. Match your goal to the layout type:

For each type, Instant asks how you'd like to start: build with Instant AI (describe what you want and the Agent generates it), choose a starter from the Template Library — it has curated layouts for every type above — or start from a blank canvas.

The Layouts & layers panel has two parts. The top lists your layouts — all the pages, sections, templates, and other publishable units in the project, grouped by type (Pages, Product pages, Collections, Blog posts, Sections, Headers, Footers, Carts). The bottom shows layers — the individual elements inside whichever layout you currently have open. Switching layouts changes what appears in the layers tree; your other layouts stay saved in the project.
