Blog posts

Create SEO-friendly blog article layouts in Instant and publish them to your Shopify blog.

Blog post layouts let you design article pages with the same visual freedom as your other Instant layouts. Each blog post connects to a Shopify blog and publishes to a URL on your storefront, giving you custom-designed content pages with full SEO control.

Create a blog post

In the Layouts & layers panel, click + and choose Blog post — or open the Add layout menu. Instant asks how you'd like to start: build with Instant AI (describe what you want and the Agent generates it), pick a starter from the Template Library under the Blog tab, or start from a blank canvas.

Build your article with the Insert panel — headings, body text, images, and other elements. Use the layers tree to structure your content.

Blog post settings

Open Blog post settings with the gear icon next to the layout name in the top header. The General tab includes:

  • Name — the label shown inside Instant

  • Handle — the URL slug for the article

  • Blog — which Shopify blog this post belongs to (pulled from your connected store)

  • Author — the displayed author name

  • Featured image — the article's featured image

  • Excerpt — a short summary

The published URL follows the pattern /blogs/{blog-handle}/{article-handle}.

SEO settings

Blog posts have an SEO tab in layout settings. Set:

  • Title — the title shown in browser tabs and search results (the field counts up to 70 characters)

  • Description — the meta description for search snippets (up to 320 characters)

Instant shows a live search preview. Use Generate or Regenerate to draft SEO copy with AI, then edit to match your brand voice. See SEO settings.

Shopify navigation

Like pages, blog posts have Shopify navigation toggles on the General tab. Turn the theme Header and Footer on or off for the article page.

Publish a blog post

  1. Select the blog post in Layouts & layers.

  2. Click Publish in the header bar.

  3. Enable Instant Embed if prompted.

  4. Use View live page to confirm the article on your storefront.

The Starter plan and higher include unlimited published pages and blogs. On the Free plan, blog posts have a publish limit — check Settings → Plans for your account's limits.

Content tips

  • Use a clear heading hierarchy so readers and search engines can follow the structure.

  • Set a featured image for social sharing and blog listing pages.

  • Write a useful excerpt; it can appear on your blog listing page.

Updating published posts

When you edit a published blog post in Instant, publish again to push changes to Shopify. Your URL, handle, and blog assignment stay the same unless you change them in settings. If you use Shopify Markets, see Manage content in Shopify before overwriting content.

Version history

Every blog post has a History tab in layout settings with automatic backups. Restore a previous version if an edit does not work out. Retention depends on your plan. See Version history.
