Instant AI is the AI built into the Instant builder. You describe what you want in plain language, and Instant AI creates or edits layout, content, and styling inside your project. You don't need design or code skills to use it.
The Agent
The Agent is Instant AI's chat panel in the builder. Open it from the Agent button in the left sidebar. The Agent works on the layout you have open and uses your context — the current page, what you have selected, and the screen size you are viewing — so you can ask for specific changes.
Typical things you can ask the Agent to do:
Build a new page or section from a short brief (for example, a landing page or a hero with a headline and button)
Restructure an existing layout (reorder sections, add a row, simplify a block)
Rewrite or shorten copy
Connect Shopify content to the layout
Apply your brand kit
The Agent applies its changes to the canvas as it works. After a change you can Undo the last action, or Revert to an earlier point in the chat to restore the layout from before those changes. Refine with follow-up messages to iterate toward the result you want.
Instant AI vs Studio
Instant AI (through the Agent) builds and edits pages, sections, and templates — structure, content, and design.
Studio generates AI product imagery — product shots and lifestyle images.
Both draw from the same pool of AI credits. Use the Agent to shape the storefront experience, and use Studio when you need fresh visuals. See Studio: AI product imagery and AI credits.
Get better results
Instant AI works best when you give it context:
Be specific. "Add a three-column feature row with icons" beats "make it nicer."
Reference your brand. Mention tone (minimal, bold, luxury), key colors, or a site you admire.
Iterate. The first pass rarely needs to be final. Ask for tighter copy, different imagery, or a mobile pass.
Connect external AI tools (MCP)
Beyond the builder, you can connect external AI clients to your project over MCP (beta) with an access token, so tools like Claude can work with your project. See Access tokens and MCP.
Plan availability
Instant AI is included on paid plans. Starter, Pro, and Business each include a monthly pool of AI credits that resets every billing cycle. Free does not include monthly AI credits. Your remaining balance is shown in Project → Plan. See Compare plans.

Describe the outcome you want — structure, content, or styling.
Review the result, refine with follow-up messages, and Undo or Revert if you want to step back.
